Ameet Maturu, Holistic Health Counselor

As a child, Ameet ate fast food, pizza and school lunches. In his early twenties, he got by on frozen microwave dinners and take-out. Throughout his life he has struggled with weight, skin disorders, and irritability.

Things started to shift when Ameet began exploring the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market outside his office in San Francisco. He brought home unusual vegetables like purple carrots each night, and cooking dinner became a meditative ritual. He started to have more energy, get excited about food and he lost over thirty pounds.

After doing a workshop with Dr. Andrew Weil, Ameet committed to studying nutrition and helping others to improve their health. His journey led him to the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City where he studied under leading experts in nutrition and wellness, including Andrew Weil, Paul Pitchford and Deepak Chopra. He learned about the connection between nutrition and health, and is certified as a Health Counselor through Columbia University Teachers College and the American Association of Drugless Practitioners.

Ameet now understands his body’s signals, and he’s able to self-diagnose and make adjustments when he is out of balance. When he tried removing gluten from his diet and adding high-quality animal protein, he was amazed by how much better he felt. He’s a firm believer that no one diet is right for everyone, and he now supports his clients with experimenting and discovering what works best for them.

At The Intuitive Cook, Ameet supports people who are in the dark about nourishing themselves. He engages young professionals in making healthy eating and living fun and accessible. Many of his clients have neglected their health, and they’re looking for a supportive environment where they can carve out time for themselves and learn about healthy options. He helps people to enjoy a variety of whole foods, lose weight, simplify, incorporate movement and exercise and enhance their quality of life. His clients have reported getting off medications, connecting with their spirituality, losing weight and having more energy.

Ameet offers nutrition counseling in person or over the phone. His intuitive cooking classes are a creative endeavor, without any recipes or rules. He also offers workshops at Whole Foods, Park Slope Food Co-op, Queensboro College and Brooklyn Public Schools. His clients love his gentle approach, calming presence and great intuition for what they need to achieve their health goals.
